History: Under the name Harrison-Upshur Regional, the library was established in January 1956, offering only bookmobile service. Lewis County joined the region in 1957 and the name was changed to the Stonewall Jackson Regional Library. In the early 1960’s, the library was relocated to the Tennerton Elementary Schoolhouse. In 1977, ground was broken on a new facility, located directly behind the old schoolhouse. Construction was completed two years later. Bookmobile service ended in 1981, and the name of the library was then changed to the Upshur County Public Library. The Upshur County Public Library system serves nearly 18,000 residents in Buckhannon and Upshur County.
